Azerbaijani Police Colonel Appointed to Head of Stepanakert Police Department in Artsakh

Zaur Nasirov takes on role as head of Stepanakert’s police department

Zaur Nasirov, a police colonel from Azerbaijan, has been appointed as the head of the Stepanakert police department. This is the second time that an Azerbaijani has been appointed to this position since the depopulation of Artsakh in 2021. In October of last year, Police Major General Sardar Safarov was also appointed to Stepanakert patrol.

Nasirov was born in 1980 and has worked in various positions within the Azerbaijani police force. Prior to his appointment as head of the Stepanakert police department, he served as the deputy head of the Baku city police department for operational work and was also the head of the Goygol district police department since 2021.

The appointment of Nasirov marks a significant step towards maintaining law and order in Artsakh, which has been a major concern following its depopulation by Armenian forces. The new leader will be tasked with ensuring that all residents and visitors are safe and secure while in Stepanakert.
