Biden Warns Against Operation in Rafah

During a phone call between President Biden and Prime Minister Netanyahu, White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan expressed concerns about the potential consequences of attacking Rafah in Gaza. Sullivan warned that such an attack would only bring more chaos to the region. Biden rejected the idea that questioning the Rafah operation equated to doubting the goal of defeating Hamas, emphasizing that there are alternative ways to achieve this objective.

Following the phone call, Biden extended an invitation to host a team from Jerusalem in Washington to discuss the issue further. Sullivan stressed the urgent need for Israel to facilitate the arrival of aid to Gaza and emphasized the importance of finding alternative ways to bring aid into the region. He emphasized the necessity of flooding Gaza with aid and resolving any difficulties that may arise in the process.

Sullivan also mentioned that Hamas’s number three leader, Marwan Issa, was killed in an Israeli operation the previous week, and that other leaders were likely hiding in the tunnels. He acknowledged Israel’s progress in taking out key Hamas targets and destroying battalions and fighters. He reassured that justice would come for the remaining Hamas leaders as well.
