Dollar General arrives in Henderson as a family business shuts down

Fargo’s Family Market in Henderson was not bustling with customers on Monday, as owners Lucille and Andrew Fargo were busy packing up unsold inventory. They attributed the closure of the Henderson store to the recent opening of a Dollar General in the area. The Dollar General offered similar products, including produce and a deli, with the added benefits of higher wages and other perks that Fargo’s Family Market couldn’t compete with.

Lucille Fargo stated that they were unable to keep up with the benefits and higher wages offered by Dollar General, leading to the decision to close the Henderson location. The only thing Dollar General did not offer was gas, which was the only item Fargo’s Family Market was known for.

With the closure of the Henderson store, all remaining stock will be transferred to Fargo’s other location in Sackets Harbor. The Mayor of Sackets Harbor, Alex Morgia, encouraged shoppers to consider where they spend their money, as it directly impacts the businesses in the community. By supporting local businesses, residents can help decide which businesses thrive in their area.

The future of the Henderson store on Route 3 is uncertain, as the Fargos are considering selling it. The decision to close the Henderson store was a difficult one, but ultimately influenced by the changing landscape of the competition in the area.
