Ebmt-papst’s Drive Technology Division to be Acquired by Siemens

Siemens is set to acquire ebm-papst’s industrial drive technology division in an effort to expand its factory automation business, both companies announced on Thursday. The Germany-based ebm-papst, known for producing electric motors and high-tech fans, is looking to focus on air and heating technology, leading them to put their division with 650 employees up for sale. ebm-papst’s Chief Executive Klaus Geissdoerfer stated that the division is a perfect fit for Siemens’ product portfolio, filling a gap in their offerings.

Geissdoerfer also highlighted that ebm-papst lacked a global sales structure, which is where Siemens excels. The two companies have not disclosed the purchase price, but they expect the transaction to be completed by mid-2025. Industrial drive technology currently makes up less than 10% of ebm-papst’s total turnover of 2.54 billion euros ($2.77 billion) and remains profitable.

Siemens’ Cedrik Neike, the executive board member responsible for digital industries, believes that the acquisition opens up new opportunities in the growing market for intelligent, battery-powered drive solutions in areas such as intralogistics and mobile robot solutions. This strategic move is seen as a way for Siemens to tap into new business and customer potential.
