A senior health fair was held in Lexington on Sunday, organized by Bonita Taylor with the United Vendors of America LLC. The event took place at a living center for seniors and featured a variety of vendors selling skin care products and jewelry. As part of the event, a representative from Aetna Medicare Solutions set up a booth to talk with attendees and educate them about health insurance.
Taylor expressed her inspiration for organizing the fair, saying, “It’s been about 15 or 20 years, I went to my first senior health fair in Frankfort, Kentucky, for the seniors and I thought it’d be a great idea to have it here and to invite the local community, all the different assisted-living homes so that they can come out, the ones that can get around, to see what’s available for them.”
Patrick Lee with Aetna Medicare Solutions was present at the event to provide seniors with information about health care insurance. He stressed the importance of face-to-face communication and developing a rapport with seniors in order to educate and inform them about the intangible product of insurance.
One of the goals behind the health fair was to provide seniors with information about alternative and additional benefits that can be paired with Medicare. Taylor noted, “A lot of the seniors are not aware that they have alternative and additional benefits to go along with their Medicare.”
In addition to valuable information, vendors at the fair were selling skin care products and jewelry, offering attendees the opportunity to find gifts for their loved ones in time for Valentine’s Day. Taylor plans to hold another senior health fair in the near future.
