Finance Minister Reviews Decision on Youth Organization Funding Cuts; Liquidation of Teenage and Youth Movements Averted

Youth organizations’ budget cuts reduced by Smotrich

Following a mass protest against the Ministry of Finance’s planned cuts in government funding for teenage and youth organizations, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has announced a review of the decision. During a meeting of the Knesset Finance Committee, he stated that while funding cuts will still be made, they will not be as significant as expected. The budget of youth organizations will be reduced by only 1 million shekels instead of the previously announced 10 million.

The adjusted draft state budget for 2024, which was adopted in the first reading last week, provided for a reduction in funding for youth organizations by 10 million shekels. However, leaders of these organizations have stated that the deprivation of state support actually means the liquidation of teenage and youth movements in Israel, including well-known and popular among teenagers such as Bnei Akiva, Tzofim and others.
