For the Second Consecutive Year, Pope Francis Was Absent from the Via Crucis

The Vatican made the decision to protect the Pope’s health by allowing him to miss the Via Crucis vigil in Rome on Good Friday. The 87-year-old Pope Francis’ seat was already prepared on a hill overlooking the Colosseum, but he never sat down. This was not the first time he missed the ceremony, as he also missed it last year while recovering from bronchitis.

The decision was made in view of other Easter ceremonies that the Pope needed to attend. Despite his absence, thousands of people still attended the ceremony in Rome to participate in the traditional Via Crucis vigil. The Vatican prioritized the Pope’s health and well-being, ensuring that he could fulfill his duties during the Easter season while also taking care of his own health.
