From ninth to first: Lara Gut-Behrami rallies from a slow start to claim Soldeu giant slalom win and secure the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup lead

Lara Gut-Behrami claims victory in Soldeu giant slalom to surpass Mikaela Shiffrin in overall standings at Alpine Ski World Cup 23/24

Lara Gut-Behrami, a Swiss skier, rallied from ninth place on the first run to win the Soldeu giant slalom in Andorra on February 10. This was her fourth giant slalom win of the season, moving her to the top of the overall FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup standings, surpassing Mikaela Shiffrin.

After the first run, Gut-Behrami trailed leader Marta Bassino by 0.61s, but she came back with the second-best performance in the second run, setting a tough standard for the women competing after her. Despite making mistakes, Bassino and her Italian compatriot Federica Brignone missed out on the podium.

Gut-Behrami’s combined time of 1:59.27 secured her the win, beating New Zealand’s Alice Robinson by one-hundredth of a second. Shiffrin’s teammate AJ Hurt finished in third place, 0.15 off the pace.
