Jambon Supports Rebooting Van Hool Industrial Activity and Opposes Chinese Investor Involvement

During an appearance on The Seventh Day, Prime Minister Jan Jambon of the Flemish government expressed readiness to back a potential reinitiation of industrial operations at the Van Hool facility in Koningshooikt. A works council is scheduled to take place at the bus builder on Monday. Jambon noted that the company’s current situation is not positive, and there is a possibility that NV Van Hool may meet its end. However, this does not signal the end of industrial activity at the site.

According to Jambon, several private partners have shown interest in the site as a result of its skilled workforce and favorable surroundings. While the Flemish government is open to supporting a restart, Jambon emphasized the importance of identifying serious stakeholders and determining whether they require assistance. The Prime Minister made it clear that a Chinese investor is not a preferred option, with a preference for a Flemish or European entity taking the lead.

Jambon’s stance indicates optimism for the future of the Van Hool site in Koningshooikt, as efforts continue to attract suitable partners and steer the industrial activity in a positive direction. The willingness of the Flemish government to provide support underscores their commitment to revitalizing the region and sustaining employment opportunities for the workforce at the site.
