Jimmies Softball Team Comes Out Even in Doubleheader Against Midland

The University of Jamestown suffered a 15-2 loss to No. 13-ranked Midland University after giving up 10 runs in the fourth inning of their game on Saturday, April 13, at the Warriors’ Schilke Field. The Jimmies initially responded to the Warriors’ four runs in the top of the first by scoring two runs in the second inning, cutting their deficit to 4-2. However, the Warriors extended their lead to 5-2 with another run in the second before a big eight-run fourth inning sealed the win for Midland University in game one of the doubleheader.

In game two, the Jimmies bounced back with a 3-1 victory over the Warriors. The Jimmies took the lead in the third inning with a double from Kayla Quintanilla, putting them ahead 1-0. Although Ariyana Crafton of the Warriors tied the game in the sixth inning, the Jimmies regained the lead in the ninth inning when Samarah Martinez hit a double to score two runs and make it 3-1. Hope Ransome pitched a complete game for the Jimmies, allowing four hits, one unearned run, and striking out nine hitters.

The Jimmies will return to the field on Friday, April 19, at 3 p.m. when they face off against Doane University. Max O’Neill, a Sports Reporter at The Jamestown Sun, is a native New Yorker and a graduate of Ithaca College with a degree in Television-Radio.
