First District Health Unit in Minot hosted an open house on Monday to showcase all it offers to the Minot community and area. Executive Director Holly Brekhus emphasized the importance of informing the public about the various programs and services available beyond COVID-related services. National Public Health Week began on April 1, with the American Public Health Association organizing events nationwide to highlight the services provided by public health officials.

First District Health Unit offers 14 programs, including emergency preparedness and response, school health, family planning, sexually transmitted diseases, general nursing, and injury prevention. The Environmental Health Division is also housed at the health unit, providing training and guidance on topics such as food safety, rabies, and hazardous waste. The division conducts inspections and enforcement at food establishments, parks, campgrounds, and swimming pools.

In addition to their own services, First District Health Unit collaborates with job services, community medical services, and other organizations to ensure community members have access to the programs and services they need. By referring individuals to other partners, they aim to provide comprehensive support to the community. Contact First District Health Unit for a full list of programs and services offered.
