Panthers scheduled to host Mike Williams next week

According to a report by Mike Kaye of the Charlotte Observer, the Panthers will be hosting free agent receiver Mike Williams next week. The Chargers recently released Williams in order to save $20 million on their salary cap. Williams was originally drafted by the Chargers in the first round in 2017 and played as the No. 2 receiver alongside Keenan Allen. However, the Chargers traded Allen to the Bears this week as part of a rebuilding process at the position.

During his time with the Chargers, Williams had two 1,000-yard seasons in 2019 and 2022. In 2019, he led the league in yards per catch with an impressive 20.4 average. Unfortunately, Williams suffered a torn ACL in Week 3 of last season but he is currently working his way back from the injury. Over seven seasons with the Chargers, Williams recorded 309 receptions for 4,806 yards and 31 touchdowns.

Now, as a free agent, Williams has the opportunity to potentially join the Panthers and add depth to their receiving corps. The Panthers are likely interested in Williams due to his track record of success and ability to contribute to the team’s offense. It will be interesting to see how Williams performs in his visit with the Panthers and whether or not he will ultimately sign with the team.
