Putin cautions that Russia-NATO conflict could escalate to World War Three in a single step

In a speech following his victory in Russia’s sham election on Sunday, Vladimir Putin issued a warning that a direct conflict between Russia and Nato could potentially lead to a full-scale third world war. This caution came after Emmanuel Macron mentioned the possibility of deploying French ground troops in Ukraine in response to Russia’s ongoing invasion. Putin’s remarks were made as he solidified his power in the election, with early results showing he won nearly 88 per cent of the vote and extending his rule for another six-year term.
The tightening of Putin’s grip on power came amidst criticism of the lack of genuine opposition in the election. Despite concerns of election fraud and suppression of dissent, Putin’s victory was still able to secure him another term in office. Macron’s remarks about potential French military intervention in Ukraine underscored the escalating tensions in the region due to Russia’s actions. The threat of a direct conflict between Russia and Nato is seen as a significant risk that could have severe global consequences, hence Putin’s warning about the potential for a third world war.
