Ryder Cup Snub Sparks Adrian Meronk’s Decision to Join LIV Golf Circuit: Interview with the Dane

Meronk believes Ryder Cup snub “likely” motivated him to LIV

Adrian Meronk’s disappointment at not being chosen for the Ryder Cup last year may have played a role in his decision to join the LIV Golf circuit. In an interview with The Telegraph at LIV’s event in Las Vegas, Meronk stated that his snub from last year’s Ryder Cup made it easier for him to sign with the Saudi-backed league. This allowed him to focus more on himself and not worry about others’ expectations or desires for him.

Despite ranking higher than Nicolai Højgaard in various metrics, including Europe’s Ryder Cup points list and the Official World Golf Ranking, it was the 22-year-old Dane who was selected for the team over Meronk. The disappointment was palpable, and Meronk admitted that the news caused him to stop listening when captain Luke Donald called with the announcement.

Having now participated in two LIV events as a member of the Cleeks, Meronk is determined to keep his Ryder Cup aspirations alive. Although a selection for the 2025 Ryder Cup may seem unlikely after his recent poor finish at the season opener in Mayakoba, Meronk expressed a desire to play for Europe. He remains eligible for the next Ryder Cup and is committed to working hard on his game to perform at a high level and hopefully earn a spot on the team.
