Science Spotlight: The Moon

Science Spotlight: The Moon

This week on Monday, March 25th, a lunar eclipse occurred. Our intern, Alexandra, along with her sister, Ariana, seized the opportunity to take photos of the moon using their telescope. The pictures turned out amazing and one of them was even used in this thumbnail. Thanks to Ariana for the stunning shots!

Despite the beauty of the moon, how much do we really know about it? The moon was formed as a result of a collision that took place around 4.5 billion years ago. Interestingly, Earth is not the only planet in our solar system that has moons. Jeff St. Clair has more information about this topic.

Here are some discussion questions to think about:
1. What do you believe the moon is composed of?
2. Have you ever observed the moon during the day?
3. If given the chance to travel to the moon, what items would you choose to bring along with you?
