South Carolina Secures Victory in NCAA Women’s Championship: A Visual Recap

South Carolina, the No. 1 overall seed, secured the NCAA women’s basketball national championship with an 87-75 victory over Iowa in Cleveland on Sunday. The win completed a perfect 38-0 season for the Gamecocks. Iowa’s star guard, Caitlin Clark, played her final college game, capping off a record-setting season with the Hawkeyes.

Leading up to the championship game, Iowa had the top three most-viewed women’s college basketball games of all time. This included their Final Four win against UConn with 14.2 million viewers, their Elite Eight victory over LSU with 12.3 million viewers, and last year’s national championship game against LSU with 9.9 million viewers. It was a highly anticipated matchup as Iowa narrowly defeated UConn 71-69 to advance to the title game for the second consecutive year.

South Carolina earned their spot in the final by beating North Carolina State University 78-59. The Gamecocks entered the championship game undefeated, with their only loss in the past 80 games coming against the Hawkeyes in last year’s Final Four. Over the last three seasons, South Carolina boasts an impressive record of 109-3.
