Lakewood Church shooting officers to receive mental health support

Houston police leaders have announced plans to provide mental health care to officers involved in the shooting at Lakewood Church on Sunday. The shooting happened when someone opened fire in the church lobby, resulting in an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and officers. The suspect, Genesse Ivonne Moreno, was killed by an officer from the Houston Police Department and an officer from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.

Following the shooting, the union representing Houston police officers stated that their members will have access to department and union peer support teams, as well as any necessary psychology treatment. They also offered mental health resources to the TABC officer who was involved in the shooting.

Both officers have been placed on administrative leave pending an ongoing investigation into the incident. The union reached out to Texas lawmakers and community members to offer their support during this difficult time.

The Lakewood Church shooting has prompted a response from lawmakers in Texas and led investigators to search a Conroe home believed to be connected to the shooter. The community and church members have received an outpouring of support during this difficult time.
