The Legacy of Osaka Expo could Strengthen Kansai’s Economy

The chairman of the Kansai Economic Federation stated in a recent interview that the 2025 Osaka World Expo has the potential to greatly enhance the economic significance of the Kansai region. Currently, the region contributes about 5% of Japan’s gross domestic product, but with the new technologies and innovations to be presented at the expo, this number could potentially increase to 20%. Masayoshi Matsumoto, who is also a vice chairman of the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition, emphasized the importance of utilizing the expo’s legacy for economic growth in the region.

In order for the expo to be successful, it is crucial for the event itself to be engaging and captivating. However, Matsumoto pointed out that it is equally important to capitalize on the long-term benefits and developments that will result from the expo. By leveraging the advancements and innovations showcased at the expo, the Kansai region can position itself as a leader in various industries and significantly boost its economic prosperity.

The preparation and operation of the 2025 Osaka World Expo are overseen by the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition, of which Masayoshi Matsumoto is a vice chairman. With strategic planning and effective utilization of the expo’s legacy, the Kansai region has the opportunity to not only increase its economic importance within Japan but also establish itself as a key player in the global economy.
