Two Idaho students chosen for science camp powered by STEAM

Two high school seniors from Idaho, Anna Grace Aiello and Geneva McClory, have been chosen to participate in the National Youth Science Camp this summer. The camp will take place in the Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia from June 29 to July 20. These students, representing Xavier Charter School in Twin Falls and Moscow High School, will join a cohort of students from across the country who are interested in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM). The program offers an opportunity for students to work with professionals in the STEAM field for an extended period of time to enhance their learning experiences.

Andrea Baerwald, coordinator for the program from the Idaho Department of Education, expressed her excitement for the students chosen, highlighting their dedication to hands-on learning and enthusiasm for science. The goal of the program is to expose students to advanced concepts and show them what it’s like to apply STEAM skills in real-world scenarios. Selection for this program is based on academic performance, achievements in STEAM program areas, and a commitment to pursuing higher education and a career in a STEAM-related industry.

Both Anna Grace Aiello and Geneva McClory expressed their enthusiasm for the upcoming trip. They are excited about the social and educational opportunities that the camp will provide, with an opportunity to interact with like-minded peers and professionals in the field. The program, in place since 1963, also includes a visit to the nation’s capital, where students will meet with congressional members, tour museums, and attend a panel discussion at the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

In summary, Anna Grace Aiello and Geneva McClory will have a unique opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills in the STEAM areas during their participation in the National Youth Science Camp. Their selection for this prestigious program recognizes their academic achievements and commitment to pursuing careers in STEAM-related fields. The camp offers a rich learning experience that includes collaboration with professionals in the industry and exposure to real-world applications of STEAM concepts.
