Two new dumpling eateries, Ugly Dumpling and Dumpling World, set to open in Austin

Austin will soon be home to two new restaurants that are dedicated to serving dumplings. The first restaurant, Ugly Dumpling, is a chain based in New Jersey and will be opening its first location in Texas at the Arboretum on Research Boulevard in the fall of 2024. The menu at Ugly Dumpling will feature Shanghainese cuisine with a focus on xiao long bao (soup dumplings) filled with options like pork and truffle, chicken, and pork-shrimp-cucumbers. In addition to dumplings, the restaurant will offer dishes like soy-garlic chicken wings, scallion pancakes, wonton soups, fried pork chops, rice, noodles, and various beverages like milk teas and lattes. The parent company, Vertex Hospitality Group, has plans to open additional Ugly Dumpling locations in New York and Maryland.

The second restaurant, Dumpling World, originates from Sugar Land and will be opening in the Triangle neighborhood at 4616 Triangle Avenue. The menu at Dumpling World will feature a variety of dumplings such as steamed, pan-fried, boiled, pot stickers, bao, shumai, wontons, and spicy-sour dumplings. Additionally, the restaurant will offer appetizers, non-dumpling dishes like egg rolls, cheese-crab puffs, chow meins, fried rices, and desserts. The anticipated opening date for the Austin location of Dumpling World was late March, but it has been postponed due to international equipment shipping issues. The original location of Dumpling World opened in Sugar Land in October 2023.

Overall, Austinites can look forward to having two new dining options to enjoy delicious and authentic dumplings in the near future.
