Unprecedented Shuffling in Men’s Basketball Rankings: USA TODAY Coaches Poll Reveals New No. 1 Teams and Closely Contested Midweek Changes

Connecticut and Purdue Shake Up College Basketball Poll Rankings

After a week of strong performances, the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll has seen some significant changes in the men’s basketball rankings. The top two teams have emerged as clear standouts from the competition, with Connecticut and Purdue securing the No. 1 spots. Connecticut took 24 of 32 first-place votes, while Purdue claimed the other eight.

The voting for the other spots was closely contested, with just 12 points separating the next four positions. Marquette vaulted three spots to No. 4, while North Carolina slipped to fifth after a midweek loss to Clemson. Arizona moved up two places to No. 6, with Kansas dropping to No. 7.

Duke, Tennessee, and Iowa State round out the top ten, with South Carolina moving up nine spots to No. 11. On the other hand, Wisconsin and Kentucky are moving in opposite directions. Indiana State joined the poll at No. 24, and Saint Mary’s reentered the poll at No. 19. Oklahoma moved back into the rankings as well.

Meanwhile, several teams have dropped out of the rankings, including Utah State, San Diego State, New Mexico, Florida Atlantic, and Texas Tech.
