Watch: British Man Named World’s Oldest at 111 Years

A resident at a British retirement home has been named the world’s oldest living man by Guinness World Records. John Alfred Tinniswood, who is 111 years old and from Southport, England, was awarded the title after the death of the previous oldest man, Juan Vicente Pérez from Venezuela. The second-oldest living man, Gisaburo Sonobe from Japan, passed away on March 31. Tinniswood was born on August 26, 1912, and still manages to get out of bed himself, handle his own finances, and listens to the radio each day to stay informed. He attributes his longevity to luck, saying you either live long or short and can’t do much about it.

Despite his age, Tinniswood doesn’t follow any special diets but believes that moderation is key to staying healthy. He emphasizes that doing too much of anything, whether it’s drinking, eating, or walking, will eventually lead to suffering. Tinniswood has one daughter, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Another record holder is Maria Branyas Morera from Spain, who is the world’s oldest living woman and oldest living person at 117 years old. She celebrated her birthday in March.
